The dynamics and composition of the circumstellar environment of stellar black holes can be diagosed through the analysis of highly resolved X-ray spectra. Chandra spectra show line absorption of cool and hot matter in the vicinity of BHs. With Con-X we plan to survey the Galactic plane as well as the contents of nearby Galaxies for large number of bright binary spectra, which will include a considerable number of BH systems.
