The Experimental Probe of Inflationary Cosmology (EPIC) is a concept study for the Einstein Inflation Probe based on a single-aperture telescope and a receiver with high-sensitivity polarization-sensitive detector arrays. EPIC will search for the polarization signature in the Cosmic Microwave Background imparted by primordial gravitational waves produced during the inflationary epoch. This definitive search for the gravitational-wave signal requires high sensitivity, all-sky coverage, broad frequency coverage, and rigorous suppression of systematic errors -- attributes only possible in a space-borne mission. EPIC will also enable high-precision measurements of scalar and lensing polarization.
