Science Drivers for Hard X-ray Upgrades to LCLS

Program

Early commissioning success at LCLS has stimulated the need to look at both near term (2-5 years) and long term (5-10 years) upgrades to LCLS. This is the first workshop focused on the development of the scientific user needs for extensions of the LCLS baseline performance. The workshop starts with a first morning of presentations of the LCLS status and a variety of possible performance enhancements addressing most aspects of the photon beam properties followed by a day and a half for working group discussions. The three working groups are: biology and soft matter, chemical sciences and materials sciences. The charge to the workshop is: define unique science opportunities that require upgrades to LCLS and the specific photon beam parameters that are required. These needs should be prioritized and be deemed possible through discussions with the accelerator/FEL physicists during the workshop.

Payment for meals will be collected on site, in the form of either cash or a check made out to "Stanford University." Credit cards will not be accepted.

Sessions will take place in the Redwood Rooms of the Research Office Building.
