Abstract:

XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a standard for marking up structured documents. XML has been widely adopted since the specification's publication in February 1998. This tutorial will introduce XML's syntax, its strengths and weaknesses, and some representative applications. We'll talk about using XML for documents and for data, and  various ways to use XML and the web.

Bio:

Walter Underwood is a Staff Engineer at Infoseek. He is responsible for the XML support for the Ultraseek Server search engine, the first search engine to offer XML support (in September 1998). He wrote his first web page in August 1994.
