Abstract

The Safety Commission is providing services to the entire CERN while performing all the centralized activities of CERN directly related with health, safety and protection of the environment. Consequently, the possibility of establishing a Quality Management System was explored by the Safety Commission management in order to demonstrate the Commission’s ability to consistently provide the services it is deemed for and meet regulatory requirements, and in order to enhance the satisfaction of the personnel profiting from the services. This paper presents the quality requirements within the Safety Commission, locates the Quality Management System with respect to a CERN Integrated Management System, and defines the structure of the Quality Management System based on modules in accordance to a four pillars model. Some theoretical principles such as continual improvement and process approach, on which the management system is based, are also recalled.
