The safety policy at CERN states that the responsibilities in terms of safety follow the managerial line. One can think that the physics experiments depend on the Physics Department. The installation of the experiment is under the responsibility of the Technical-Support Department, and hence the safety of the installation.
Therefore, the Glimos and the Experimental Area Manager share the responsibilities in terms of safety: the intrinsic safety of the experiment for the first, the safety of the installation process for the latter.
The talk will briefly present the safety policy at CERN and the specific case of experiment installation. The safety measures, in terms of safety team and safety equipment will also be presented.
Despite all the efforts, some accidents have occurred during the installation so far. The talk will also comment these accidents, including the “near missed” ones.
