The focus of Working Group 5 is on the engineering support for the collider. This includes the beamline housing itself, the components between the ground and the beamline equipment, the power and cooling systems, the support infrastructure, the plan for operation and the management of maintenance. The goal of the group is to evaluate requirements, to review status of the design and plan and to understand needed effort. We also will develop common paths of study with the goal of promoting collaborative work.
Review plans for civil construction including development of criteria for site evaluation and including development of site layouts and construction strategies.
Review plans for managing power flow through the system including plans for controlling temperature.
Review plans for managing operation, in particular the integration of non-host laboratories. Review plans for managing maintenance. This includes a discussion of the ‘Global Accelerator Network’ reports.
Review plans for evaluating reliability estimates. Compare with observed reliability at factory facilities.
The Working Group meetings will be divided into 5 sessions
Session topics:
Ground motion, alignment stability and measured performance. Impact of climate. Power handling and thermal control.
Civil construction techniques and structure evaluation. The engineering of the tunnels. The interaction region housing structure. Two tunnel structural interaction.
Construction plans, site layouts and strategies, including infrastructure. The level of required infrastructure and impact on plans for GAN. Commissioning plans.
Operations management – inter- laboratory controls and responsibilities (GAN)
Reliability – evaluation process and performance of existing factories.
