 Pre-registation is required. Each dinner is $10 for a student, $20 for a general participant.

Solar Eclipse Observation

Monday, August 21, 2017 from 9:45-10:45 AM, Kavli Patio
This is an extended coffee break between the first two lectures to allow the observation of the solar eclipse. The expected eclipse path can be found on this interaction map which indicates ~74% maximum obscurity near SLAC at ~10:15AM. Eclipse observation glasses advertised by NASA will be provided.

Soccer Match / IR2 Tour

Wednesday, August 23, 2017  has a joint event of SSI vs SLAC soccer club soccer game, in conjunction with a tour to IR2 (LZ test stand and LSST clean room)

  • IR2 Tour (5:00--5:45pm): Tour include LZ Xenon purification plant and test platform, and LSST camera construction clean room. Please follow the map below to find your own way to IR2 to meet at the gathering point (the entrance road slopes down towards IR2) at 5:00pm sharp. IR2 building is a Controlled Area so that you need to sign up to the tour online before the end of Monday Aug/21. Check the signup list.   
  • Soccer game (6:00-7:30pm), SLAC Arrillaga Recreation Center soccer field (see map below). Everyone is welcome to play or cheer. The SLAC soccer club hosts a BBQ after the game for the SSI team. If you are interested staying for the BBQ, please sign up to the soccer game sheet at the SSI registration desk. For SSI team players, the nominated T-shirt color for SSI team is white or very light colored.
  • During these events you can also take a walk on the Hill vista trail in the map below to go to the Vista point where you can get a straight view of the two mile linear accelerator, the Research Yard with LCLS beam line and End Station A where the deep inelastic scatter experiment in 1970 discovered the quark/parton inside nucleon. You can also see the old SPEAR ring (now Stanford Syncrhtron Radiation Lab - SSRL) which hosted the e+e- experiment MK-I that discovered charm quark and tau lepton in 1974/1976.
