| Abstract | We report ultrafast THz-pump THz-probe measurements of electron-hole dynamics in semiconductors. Intense, half-cycle THz pulses, emitted by a laser-produced plasma in air, are observed to induce nonlinear changes in the THz absorption coefficient, associated with free carrier excitation by far below band-gap photons. The mechanisms and applications of this process will be discussed. |
