Abstract

We have demonstrated a synthesis of cobalt disilicide (CoSi2) self- aligned nanostructures (SAN) from a reaction of Co nanoparticles with Silicon at 900°C. A nearly identical reaction at 1100°C results in the catalytic growth of uniform Silicon nanowires (SiNW) from the Co nanoparticles. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) have been used to investigate the SAN and SiNW, and the results of these analyses will be presented.
