SSRLUOEC Background

The SSRL Users' Organization is broadly concerned with representing the interests of the SSRL user community. The executive committee is the formal organizational unit and they serve many important functions, including:

  • Organizing and hosting the annual SSRL Users' Meeting to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of recent user developments and experimental results as well as future plans.
  • Presenting the Annual William E. Spicer Young Investigator Award to recognize the scientific or technical accomplishments of an investigator within seven years of entry into their professional scientific field.
  • Presenting the Annual Farrel W. Lytle Award to promote important technical or scientific accomplishments in synchrotron radiation-based science, technology or user service.
  • Presenting the Melvin P. Klein Scientific Development Award to a student to disseminate scientific results based on work performed at SSRL at a scientific conference during the following academic year.
  • Presenting awards for outstanding graduate student posters presented at the annual meeting.
  • SSRLUOEC members serve as a liaison between the user community, management, and SLAC/SSRL advisory committees; provide input into operations planning and future developments such as new imaging capabilities, continuous scans, preparations for 500 mA operations, top off injection and plans for pulsed beam for timing mode studies. More information about the SSRL Users' Organization.
  • More broadly, the SSRLUOEC promotes user science and advocates the role of light sources in the scientific enterprise. The SSRLUOEC coordinates activities with representatives from other DOE user facilities, including SNUG (Synchrotron and Neutron Users' Group) and NUFO (National User Facility Organization).
