XPP Instrument Information
X-ray Pump-Probe Instrument
The XPP instrument is being designed to utilize hard x-rays from the LCLS in the photon energy range over approximately 4000-25000 eV. The instrument is designed to study the photon-matter interaction in biological, chemical and condensed matter systems. The unprecedented flux and time resolution of the LCLS will permit experimental investigation of structural dynamics with X-ray techniques during the course of a photo-induced transformation. Femtosecond-level synchronization between an optical laser and the LCLS X-ray pulse will allow sub-picosecond time resolution.
Full design includes:
- x-ray optics
- focusing optics to achieve a beam size of a few microns in the interaction region
- monochromator system
- attenuator system
- mirror system
- apertures
- x-ray area detector
- x-ray diffractometer system
- tilt platform
- kappa goniometer
- detector positioning system
- ultrafast laser system
