The International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA) will organize a Seminar from October 28 to 31, 2008 at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Menlo Park, CA. Such a Seminar takes place every three years with the aim of bringing together government officials involved in strategic decisions for High Energy Physics (HEP), representatives of the major funding agencies, the directors of major HEP laboratories, and leading scientists from all of the regions of HEP activity. For delegates to the Seminar who may be interested, SLAC will also be holding a one-day B-Factory Symposium on October 27, in recognition of the achievements of PEP-II and BABAR.

This year the ICFA Seminar is particularly timely, with the expectation that the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will achieve first collisions in summer 2008, thereby opening up a new era of discovery in particle physics at the energy frontier. The Global Design Effort (GDE) has continued to move forward towards realizing the International Linear Collider (ILC) as the next major high energy facility for the field, following completion of the Reference Design Report in January 2007. Furthermore, the different regions, represented by ACFA, ECFA and HEPAP, have all independently studied and established possible roadmaps for the future of HEP within the last year. The Seminar an ideal venue for the international community to examine these plans for outstanding science from a global perspective, and to establish the long-term foundations for the field.

With these recent developments, the ICFA Seminar will provide an opportunity for the lively exchange of ideas on the future direction of HEP and a forum for discussion on the trends in HEP with emphasis on globalization issues. In order to allow for effective discussion, the number of participants is restricted and attendance is by invitation only.

A draft program of the ICFA Seminar has been posted. We hope that this Seminar will be as successful as the previous ones, and we would like to count on your support and feedback. We would like to hear your comments on the range of topics to be covered, and we would like to have suggestions for speakers.

We hope that you will be able to take part in the 9th ICFA Seminar and will encourage other people from your laboratory or institute to participate in this worldwide Seminar.
