Please join us for a night you won't forget! Conference attendees and their guests (including children) are welcome to attend the Lepton Photon banquet that will be held at the California Academy of Sciences from 7:00-11:00 PM on June 28th. The museum will be open exclusively for our conference attendees and guests only, and you'll have a chance to explore the exhibits, rainforest, aquarium, living roof, and more throughout the evening. The cost is $75.00 per person, which includes the museum entrance fee, food, beverages, and dessert (Note: The Cal Academy general admission fee ranges from $24.95-$34.95 per person. Also, parking is $15.00 per car at the Cal Academy garage).

Home to an aquarium, planetarium, natural history museum, and world-class research and education programs, the California Academy of Sciences is one of San Francisco's must-see destinations. From the splashing penguins in African Hall to the wildflowers on the roof, the building is bursting with life. A four-story living rainforest and awe-inspiring coral reef ecosystem will delight visitors of all ages, while immersive space shows will transport audiences beyond the boundaries of our planet. Opportunities abound to meet Academy scientists, share in their discoveries, and join the journey to make our world a greener, more sustainable place to live.

Current Exhibits Include:

  • African Hall - take a virtual safari through Africa by exploring the majestic dioramas of African Hall.
    • These dioramas contain a few surprises: live tortoises, lizards, and fish have taken up residence in some of the smaller displays, and African penguins dip and dive in a 25,000 gallon tank at the end of the hall. Note: The penguin exhibit closes at approximately 8:00 PM.
  • Built for Speed - From speedy ocean animals to the world's fastest sailboats, find out what it takes to be swift at sea.
    • ORACLE TEAM USA'S AC45 and AC72 wing-sail catamarans demonstrate creative design and boundary-breaking technology. Catch a glimpse of the AC45 catamaran suspended from the ceiling between the Swamp and the Piazza.
  • Human Odyssey - Trace the milestones of our species' fascinating history in a dramatic addition to Tusher African Hall.
  • Earthquake: Life on a Dynamic Planet - Explore the jolting science behind plate tectonics, which shape the planet and impact our lives.
    • Experience a high-magnitude jolt in the earthquake simulator and explore the impacts of the largest disaster in San Francisco's history - the 1906 earthquake and fire. Earthquake: Children ages 3 or younger are not recommended in the San Francisco Shakes section of the exhibit.
  • The Aquarium - Meet Nemo, a colony of penguins, and 38,000 other live animals from around the world.
  • The Natural History Museum - Explore how life evolved on Earth, and what we can do to help conserve its diversity.
  • The Rainforest - Journey through a four-story rainforest that is hot, humid, and teeming with life.
    • The Academy Rainforest is teeming with live animals - including free-flying birds and butterflies, exotic reptiles and amphibians, and a cave with bats. Climb through the layers of the rainforest and descend into a 100,000 gallon "Flooded Forest" tank, where freshwater fish cruise overhead. Note: The Rainforest closes at approximately 8:00 PM.
